On Friday 23 October, twelve girls from Years 11 and 12 played in the  annual Cowboys Schoolgirls Challenge in Townsville.  The competition is for schools from the Mackay and Townsville region.

After an early morning start, HSC arrived at the grounds and were drawn to play Proserpine State High School in their first game.  The nine-a-side games featured narrower fields over a 20 minute period.  The girls made it through to the Finals, against Kirwan State High School, and were in the lead with five minutes left in the game.  Kirwan scored a try with 30 seconds left to run out 6-5 winners.

Despite going down by the narrowest of margins, the team’s playing skills, determination, lack of fear and support for each other over the course of the day was amazing.  The HSC girls displayed all the qualities we look for in our teams.
