This year, the HSC Science Department started the Robotics Club and I have spent Terms 1 and 2 teaching the students how to build and program the Lego NXT Robotics. In this last term, we travelled to Mackay Christian College (MCC) for three workshops from Alun Tunnah on various afternoons.
After these many weeks of preparation, the Robotics Club headed to CQU Rockhampton to compete in our first Central Queensland Regional Robotics Competition on Friday 1 August. The competition required the students to design, build and program two Robots to play soccer – each team required a striker and a goalie robot.
HSC entered two teams and through the preliminary rounds, each team competed in six soccer games.
After tough games in the Semi Finals and Finals, our teams managed to place 1st (HSC 1) and 4th (HSC 2) in the competition.
This is a fantastic result for our school and I am extremely proud of the students’ efforts. Throughout the whole day, students demonstrated maturity and great sportsmanship. The results are also indicative of the students’ hard work and determination.
