Wednesday 22 April saw the start of the 2015 Rugby League season for Holy Spirit College.  The day started off with the U13 Boys team travelling to Sarina to take on a traditionally strong Sarina team.  Considering it was their first game together, the boys played extremely well showing off their skills they had learnt in pre-season to record a convincing win.  The 58-0 victory was pleasing however, the humility, teamwork and sportsmanship displayed from the team was especially nice to watch from the sidelines.

From here, we travelled back to Mackay for the U15 Boys team to play last year’s Grand Finalists, Northern Beaches State High, at Magpies.  Coached by former NRL player, Steve Jackson, and Magpies Assistant, Troy Hayward, the team forged together to come away with an inspired 36-22 victory.  Despite being a little rusty at times, glimpses of brilliance throughout the game left the team well-placed for the rest of the season.

The final game of the night saw our Open Boys team start their Confraternity preparation with a game against Mackay State High School.  Traditionally strong, they provided staunch resistance with a see-sawing encounter ensuring a tense result.  Despite leading for all but the final five minutes, HSC were defeated 24-18 in a nail-biter.  Despite the loss, the Open Boys team are excited they can match it with the best teams in Mackay and are looking forward to playing Sarina next week.
